Heal From Within
Transformative Breathwork
A Brief History
For millennia, cultures and religions around the world have utilized breath control and adjustment to alter states of consciousness. In ancient India, the yogic discipline of Pranayama focuses on the regulation of breathing, forming the foundation of all yoga practices. Similarly, the science of breath, known as Pranayam, plays a central role in this tradition. Indigenous Australian cultures have long practiced circular breathing in various spiritual and cultural rituals.
In Christian tradition, the term “breath” is often linked to the Greek word “pneuma” or spirit inferring the “Holy Spirit,” while in Judaism, “breath” is expressed through the Hebrew word “ruacḥ” (רוח), meaning wind, often symbolizing an invisible, spiritual force. Traditional Chinese culture describes “qi” or “chi” as vital energy that must be balanced for health, a concept that also permeates Taoism, martial arts, and traditions throughout East Asia.
